It is recommended to use the Brendes debug connector in the PCB layout instead of the standard JTAG connector. It should be located near to the CPU.
Required PCB space is reduced and the cost of the connector are not increased. But as main advantage the developer has two options now:
- Work with every JTAG adapter (BICEPS, Ulink or others) by use of a small converter
- Debug with real-time trace, if it is necessary. I/O pins needed for debug signals can be emulated.
If no real-time trace is used, adjacent contacts of pins 1-20 are connected by bridges or jumpers. For simple JTAG debugging it's enough to use pins 21-40 of the connector (reduction to half size).
