A new approach to learning for primary school children

Nikolino

The project Nikolino is based on the assumption that a positive or negative feedback of an action is an essential condition for a learning process.

During school lessons this can be done only rarely directly and individually. Therefore, a smart pen, recognizing errors and providing a feedback could give children more independence in learning. Learning could be more fun, because it is unconsciously easier.

Features of the Nikolino pen

• Intelligent pen recognizes what is written while writing on a normal paper
• Nikolino signals spelling faults or errors in math calculations
• A red light indicates an error and goes out when it is corrected sucessfully
• Children can verify their results and are able to work on their own
• Nikolino is specially adapted to children’s needs:
  • Supports the natural kind of learning: trial and error
  • Simple to use
  • Recognizes special characters used by writing beginners
• Nikolino gives support exactly when it is needed
• Small, mobile device can be used everywhere
• Additional pedagogical functions for parents and teachers, for example recording of all writings over a long time for further analysis
• Different Nikolino versions will be possible:
  • English: Detects orthographic mistake
  • Math: Detects errors in mathematical results and procedures
  • Versions with display for additional hints und for languages (with dictionary)
